Success Leaves Clues

Success Leaves Clues

Recently I had the opportunity to hear Dennis McIntee do a short training session. He is a non-traditional speaker, using frameworks and mind tools to assist leaders. He is a gifted presenter. As one person said, and I agree, “I feel like Dennis lives in my head as a leader.” One of the things I like about Dennis is he gives simple, practical solutions that are realistic to use.

Here is the gist of Dennis’ magic. Dennis provides mind mapping tools to address challenges most leaders face every day. He keeps it simple.

-Do I have a blamer or victim mindset and how do those hold me back?

-What if I make excuses for something my team did, or what I did? Making excuses for others or myself undercuts my ability to lead. Excuses allow me to ignore the problem, and I don’t have to address it; this is not good for my accountability as leader. Excuses give me a reason to dismiss opportunities for change.

-“How I should be looking at my daily obstacles” and “why having no obstacles is a big red flag.” Have you met people who don’t have obstacles? They don’t have obstacles because they don’t have any goals. Goals allow us to grow and move us from our comfort zone to our growth zone.

-What value does frustration have for me as a leader? I want to eliminate any frustration, but Dennis teaches how to actually use the frustration as energy to move me toward change.

When the pain is real, leaders need practical solutions. Dennis has made it simple and practical.
