How to Express Gratitude to our Team
“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” ~William Arthur Ward
Expressing gratitude for employees is essential for fostering a positive work environment and building a strong team. Finding the time to give the gift of gratitude is a challenge, but well worth the effort.
Here are a few ways we can express gratitude to our people.
- Recognition Programs: Establish employee recognition programs that highlight and reward outstanding performance. I have done this with a leadership and training program. They take a bit of time to create and execute, but it is well worth it.
- Regular Appreciation Events: Meals, pens, and magnets are just a few. Host an event to express gratitude such as celebratory lunches, or appreciation ceremonies. These are staples for me. I use these a lot.
- Personalized Thank-You Notes: A handwritten personalized thank-you note expressing appreciation for individual contributions. Be specific about the positive impact each employee has on the team and the organization. Easy to do and a great one to use.
- Professional Development Opportunities: Invest in your employees’ growth by providing professional development opportunities, training sessions, or workshops tailored to their career goals. Invite a speaker to speak to your team or send your team to events. I like this one a lot.
- Social Media Shout-Outs: Publicly acknowledge and appreciate employees on social media platforms, showcasing their accomplishments and contributions to the organization. I have seen companies do a great job with this one.
These are just a few ways I have expressed gratitude over the years. Let me know the special ways you have said thank you to your team.

Thank you for being the type of leader who actively shows your appreciation to your team.
Keep leading well,
