Today’s Word is Sacrifice
Last week, I led our team through a session focused on the word: sacrifice. There’s
immense power in taking a few moments to dive deep into a single word. I encouraged
our team to share their thoughts on what sacrifice means in the context of our daily
work.
We discussed various trade-offs: time, money, patience, opportunities, weekends, and
hobbies. Each team member contributed valuable insights, highlighting how these
sacrifices shape our professional lives.
Then, we explored the rewards of sacrifice. Many noted how it helps us pay the bills,
support our passions, care for our families, plan for retirement, and achieve job
satisfaction. There are also those delightful perks: occasional free meals, recognition for
our efforts, and the pride that comes from contributing to something bigger than
ourselves.
“I think that the good and the great are only separated by the willingness to sacrifice.”
~Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, American former basketball player
Great team members understand the essence of sacrifice in their pursuit of excellence.
Being average requires little effort, but true greatness demands a commitment to
continuous learning, growth, and improvement. It often involves sacrificing comfort,
convenience, and even downtime. Those with a growth mindset embrace these
challenges, striving to become better every day.
Today’s sacrifices pave the way for a better tomorrow.
