Standards Drive Decisions: Leadership in Action

Standards Drive Decisions: Leadership in Action

“The highway of life is filled with flat squirrels that couldn’t make a decision.” ~ John Maxwell

Standards matter in every industry. In mine, we live and die by them. The visual condition of a campus shapes how students, parents, and visitors feel—whether they experience inspiration, safety, or indifference. Consistency, cleanliness, clear sightlines, vibrant yet calming color, and uncluttered pathways all influence that experience and can ultimately impact the organization’s success.

More than 100 employees work daily to maintain these standards, which require leaders who can make sound, timely decisions in changing conditions such as weather events, special functions, and daily operational demands.

Leadership development is designed to prepare teams to make those decisions with standards as their guide. We plan, communicate, execute, adjust, and continuously improve. This process builds confidence and gives permission to act quickly and accurately within clear expectations.

Over time, this creates experienced-based decision making aligned with organizational standards. As Jim Rohn said, “Indecision is the thief of opportunity.” Strong leadership develops situational awareness, prioritization, and accountability—shifting decisions from reactive to intentional.

That is how we grow people—and the plants.

Keep growing.
