Labor: Ways to Find Quality Employees
“Great vision without great people is irrelevant.” ~Jim Collins, Author of Good to Great
Today, finding quality employees could well be a full-time job. The challenge is that you already have a full-time job. The good news is that there are many outlets that make this less time consuming and more beneficial. Here are a few:
1. Post on your social media outlets. What started as a way to stay in touch with friends and family has now become a way to stay in business. Use it.
2. Ask your current employees for referrals. Good people generally know good people.
3. Attend or better yet, get a booth at your local job fair. The opportunities gained from laying eyes on a potential candidate cannot be overstated.
4. Tap into your network. HOA board, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, church, your kids’ ballpark.
5. Post your openings on your website. Random chance encounters with people visiting your website to find a service or get directions to your location can start them thinking about joining.
6. Focus on recruitment. This means replying to applicants quickly (they have options).
7. Advertise on your equipment, in your restrooms and other legal locations. According to the Agency Management Institute, out of home advertising makes the experience come alive for consumers – in this case, for potential hires.
8. Do one thing about hiring someone for 30 days straight. Every day, talk to someone, post, reach out to a group, be persistent.
9. Teach a class at for your community, school or non-profit and let class attendees know about the jobs. Sometimes, you are your best recruiting tool.
10. Look at your local retirees who want to stay active. According to a Federal Reserve Board study, a full 1/3 of those who retire eventually reverse retirement and return to work on either a full or part-time basis.
