Gaining Momentum with the Growth Mindset – Part Two

Gaining Momentum with the Growth Mindset – Part Two

Last week, we explored the value of the Growth Mindset. Now, let’s talk about how to build

momentum—and keep it going.

Gill Penchina, a business leader and investor, once said: “Momentum begets momentum, and

the best way to start is to start.”

In physics, momentum is power in motion. Think of a bowling ball versus a softball. Same

speed, different force. The bowling ball carries more weight—more momentum—because of its

mass.

The same principle applies to leadership and personal growth. Take Chris Nikic. One day, he

committed to getting 1% better—every day. That single choice started a ripple effect. He stayed

consistent, celebrated wins, adjusted after setbacks, and kept moving. That’s how momentum is

built—bit by bit, day by day.

In your work and leadership, gaining momentum starts by showing up. Don’t avoid the tough

projects—lean in. That initial commitment becomes the “power” that moves you and your team

forward. And as momentum builds, so does confidence, trust, and impact.

Leadership Momentum is real. It’s the force created by consistent, intentional action. As a

leader, you can steer that momentum forward—or let it stall out. Great leaders understand that

small daily efforts shape long-term success.

Here are three ways to build leadership momentum:

1. Embrace the Growth Mindset

Commit to learning—every day. Seek out feedback, ask better questions, and track your

progress. Start by revisiting last week’s blog questions and adding one or two new ones that

challenge your comfort zone.

2. Foster a Growth-Oriented Culture

Create space for curiosity. Encourage your team to speak up, try new things, and even fail

forward. Celebrate effort and progress, not just results. Momentum thrives in an environment of trust and open communication.

3. Lead by Example

Let your team see you learning, struggling, and growing. Be open about setbacks, and more

importantly—what you’re doing about them. Equip your team with tools and training. Give them room to grow.

Building momentum isn’t flashy—it’s consistent. But when you lead with purpose and a growth

mindset, the results will speak for themselves.

Until next time—keep growing strong,
