Speak Less and Act More

Speak Less and Act More

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”

~ Abraham Lincoln

Have you ever had to teach one of your up-and-coming leaders to be quiet instead of talking all the time? Over the years, I have experienced leaders who are amazing chatterers. I have often set up a meeting to visit them with my 2-3 meeting items to cover. Much chattering happened, but I left the meetings with my items undiscussed. Missed opportunities that I let happen.

Quick tip: Over the years, I’ve learned to send an agenda via email before the meeting or to politely give the leader a sticky note as I walk into our meeting. Most leaders tell me that agenda helps them to center on the purpose of the meeting and what we need to cover. Simple right?

That one tip has kept the meetings focused. It stops the wasted horizontal energy too. When I do this, I usually always walk out with my items covered.

“Silence is a form of communication, too. Sometimes less is more.”

~Pat Summitt

Stay focused, create that meeting agenda.
